The Fallen Flame (Prometheus series)
Acrylic, charcoal on canvas, 36"x48", 2024
Inspired by the myth of Prometheus, this collection delves into the profound interplay of light, knowledge, and darkness. Each piece, through its dynamic composition and evocative palette, explores the dual nature of human ambition—the quest for enlightenment and the shadows it casts. Like the fire stolen from the gods, these artworks illuminate the complex journey of understanding, revealing both the brilliance of discovery and the inherent struggles within the human condition.

The "Surrounded By Water" (SBW) series explores the profound impact of Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico in 2017. These works serve as a poignant reflection on the widespread destruction caused by the hurricane, but more critically, they confront the subsequent governmental abandonment and negligence that exacerbated the human toll. Through a blend of acrylic and charcoal, the artist captures the raw aftermath and the enduring struggle, reacting visually to what became a norm in a silenced tragedy.

This group of works, titled "Fractured Shadow" and exhibited in 2020 at Latchkey Gallery in NYC, presents abstractions based on human body forms to generate a dialogue about the colonial problem in Puerto Rico as opposed to freedom. The human body, broken into an element in metamorphosis, seeks its freedom. The artist abstracts it to generate new forms that aspire to anti-colonial visions and perspectives on the political and social impositions on Puerto Ricans who have been exploited by the colonial complex for more than 500 years.

The "SyRIO" series is a group of paintings created in deep dialogue with the poem "Soy un Río Oscuro" (I am a Dark River) by the important Puerto Rican poet Francisco Matos Paoli (Lares, Puerto Rico, 1906 – San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2000). Matos Paoli was a central figure in Puerto Rican literature and nationalism, known for his mystical poetry and political activism, which even led to his imprisonment for his pro-independence ideals. His work often explores themes of identity, spirituality, and the struggle for freedom. The search in the shapes and colors in this group of paintings are open dialogs with the "Soy un río oscuro" poem.

The "Distopía Augusta" series explores the inherent resilience and robustness of materials like canvas and pigment, transforming their poetic qualities and plastic necessities into a profound metaphor for political resistance throughout Puerto Rico's history over the past 100 years. Through these works, the artist delves into how the very endurance of artistic mediums mirrors the unwavering spirit and enduring struggle of the Puerto Rican people against historical and ongoing challenges, reflecting a deep-seated strength that persists despite adversity.
